D replaces HR10 with HR20 and tells me to pitch the HR10

I am a long time lurker and like everyone else, my HR10 started rebooting last week. Before I checked the forums I called D and asked them to replace the receiver. (I have the warranty plan.) The said no problem and sent me a HR20.

Then I checked the forums and found out I needed to force an upgrade to 6.3e. I forced the upgrade and my HR10 started acting normally. I received the HR20 the next day and called DirecTV. (No return label in the HR20 box.)

I told D that I wanted to keep my HR10 and send back the HR20. D stated that they didn't want my HR10 back and that I could keep the HR20. I could do anything I wanted with the HR10. (eg. throw it away.) I asked if I could keep it hooked up and they said yes. (He stressed that I could NOT call in for a repair on it in the future. Not that it needed to be said.)

I thought this was an intresting tid bit.

Rickmeoff, so we can now agree to peacefully disagree because you have offered clearly opinion based reasons to dislike the system that a passer by can read. What I don't like is the "HR20 is a pile of crap" posts you often see in response to genuine requests. I could even argue that the HR10 is better but it's irrelevant if I want the MPEG4 channels.

I'm guessing RS4's post got deleted (it showed up in my email) but I am proud to be "part of the HR20 army and a shill for DirecTV" if that label is made by RS4 :)
we see the same posts (hr10 sucks) on both units from time to time. since the hr20 is the new guy in town and is going through growing pains, its only natural to see more of that now.

I'm not sure it is so much a conspiracy. You have to keep in mind that almost every new dvr added today is a leased dvr. Unless you point out to them at sign up time that your new one is NOT leased they will take the default path.
I think it's more than just someone choosing default, I think that's the only way the software allows units to be activated now; there is no initial choice. The rep needs to activate, then go back in and manually change the default "leased" designation to "owned" after the fact.
