Got my XL4 yesterday and got it set up. Took two calls to my cable provider to get the cablecard set right (first call got it paired, but then I realized after all the TiVo setup finished that it didn't have any of my premium channels - second call got the cablecard properly authorized for my channels). Only got to play with it for a few minutes last night but seems pretty slick. Set up a few Season Passes to give it something to do. :)

Thanks, I'll check out those links.

The real test will be today - the wife is working from home in our study, and thats where I set up the TiVo temporarily to test it out. She'll be forced to use it today for live/recorded tv.

Sorry to burst your bubble but TiVo has stated off the record that they have no intention in OTA anymore because of the amount of dealings they have with cable providers plus there wouldn't be anyway for them to fit that many tuners into the box, plus with their big push for MoCA and the TiVo Stream and the TiVo Mini, copy protection is another concern of theirs. This whole rumor about a new box is speculation and quite frankly there has yet to be any hard evidence to support it and until then it shouldn't be even a consideration.

It was while visiting the NY office. Not surprised considering the path they've been on with the products. It's just hard for OTA users to accept because it's not what they want to hear.

It's hard for us OTA-only users to accept the idea that TiVo could be stupid enough to abandon the only market where they have a near monopoly, and to instead devote themselves to being a captive supplier to the cable industry. They have done some questionable things, but this one would be a landmark in the area of bad management decisions.

Agreed. If anything, they should be targeting OTA as an area where they can run wild with little opposition, other than MCE.

OTOH, there is MCE, and a ton of TiVos out there that can do OTA, and a lot of them would start to come off of cable and be re-sold if TiVo dropped OTA altogether.

Good point. Personally at the end of the day I just want everyone to be happy. I'm just concerned that TiVo could bastardize their cable only plans for their new TiVo's. I mean ideally it would be nice if they had dual releases. an OTA only model and a cable only model, each identical in features with the exception of how it get's it's source material.

Ok, you're gonna burst bubbles by relaying off the record info...
... and then tell us we shouldn't consider it because there is no hard evidence.

    So which is it?
