    Hi Everyone !!
Does anyone know the commercial lengths for 30 minute and 60 minute shows. I'd like to take advantage of the 30 second skip feature on the TiVo, but have discovered that even though a program may be 30 minutes or 60 minutes, the length of the commercials seems to vary. Any ideas ? Cheers !!

However, as you mentioned, it seems that the length of each commercial and each commercial break can vary widely.

Commercial break lengths vary so widely that there is no "perfect" number of Skip button presses. Try 7 quick presses to get you past the first few minutes then use fast-forward to scan through the remainder. Try 9 presses to skip all the ads and use Replay or Rewind to adjust to your intended resume point.

According to my VideoReDo outputs, 30-minute programs have 10 minutes of ads (three 3- to 4-minute breaks) and 60-minute programs have 18 minutes of ads (five breaks) on average.

I've noticed the evening news on ABC, CBS, and NBC don't begin their ads until 15 minutes in, then there's a barrage of 3-minute pharmaceutical ads every 3 minutes.

Jimmy Kimmel Live gives you only 5 minutes of content over a 15-minute period toward the end of every episode.

The CBS news program "60 Minutes" starts with 5 minutes of previews and ads then ends with 5 minutes of ads which compacts the breaks inbetween closer together.

Most networks place the ads at the 15-minute marks of their one-hour programs so using TiVo's skip-to-tickmark feature tends to put you right at the start of a torrent of advertising.

In general, you'll get accustomed to which method of skipping ads works best for the individual programs you regularly watch. Sometimes fast-forwarding is better than using the Skip button and vice versa.

They also run more commercials at the 30 min mark of one hour shows then they do the rest of the time. It seems like there are double the number of them.
