CNET was all set to select the Dish Hopper for its Best of CES award but parent company CBS said no, supposedly due to ongoing litigation between CBS and Dish.

At least one CNET staffer, Greg Sandoval, has resigned over this.

CNET had already selected the Hopper for its Best of CES award but was told by CBS to change it.

The initial reports were CBS removed the Hopper from consideration before CNET voted it Best of CES. CBS changed the rules to prohibit CNET from reviewing products under litigation after the fact and made the rule retroactive.

Been following this closely and to all reports the decision to award Best in Show was made before the smack down came from Corporate Communication, or in this case Les Moonves. (sp?)

The question of editorial independence is at the forefront of every conversation and as led to many people questioning whether cNet, under the ownership of CBS will have any credibility in the future as a result.

This reminds me of the old days when CBS owned Fender and Rhodes and Leslie, and when NBC ran Midnight Special, they'd put a black bar over those logos on the band's equipment.

    Petty, petty, petty.
