Does anyone here have a cable system that has switched to using H.264 (aka MPEG4) for some of your channels? If so are any of those channels unprotected and capable of being transferred to a PC via TiVoToGo? If so would you be willing to send me a sample of a .tivo file with H.264 video so I can use it for testing in VideoReDo?

Just made a 50 sec recording from an HD H.264 channel that is not copy protected. Let me know where you want me to upload to.
NOTE: Media Player with the TiVo DirectShow filter plays it fine and looks like VRD TVSuite is able to open it as well.

(For anyone else wanting to generate a sample note that you MUST download in TS container, AKA "fast transfers" in TiVo Desktop, not PS container). I used kmttg with TS downloads enabled.

    Awesome!

I forgot I'm going to need your MAK to open the file. Can you PM that to me?

    Thanks.

One more question... do they allow you to transfer these in the old PS format? Or do they restrict the H.264 programs to TS?

The nowplaying/index.html interface gives option to download either one. When I tried downloading PS format it went very quickly and basically grabbed audio & text streams and no video and result obviously was not watchable. i.e. Garbage.

Cool good to know. Just wanted to make sure we didn't need to support H.264 in PS to support TiVo files. I think the New Zealand TiVos did the same thing when video was H.264.

One thing I'm hoping to glean from this is the ability to create TS files with H.264 video that can be pulled back to a TiVo without having to be recoded or go through the push process. I tried in the past with the files I got from a NZ customer and had some success, but it never worked quite right. I'm hoping that by using a file from a US TiVo I can get it working finally.

Yes I was going to mention that (that thread will need to be resurrected). Let us know if you have any success with "manufacturing" an H.264 .TiVo file that can be pulled. One potential advantage of that as well is to avoid the MOOV atom mess with mp4 container (needs to be at front of file for TiVos as you know).
