    Thanks.

The son has to be at least 25 (7 years in college) so she is probably playing about her real age.

Wow... I'm going to need to go back and watch again. She did not read that old to me at all.

    +1

I too took her to be younger than her brother (i.e. Josh Gadd's character).

I did not realize that Josh Gadd is one of the creators/ producers. So, I am guessing his character is not going to be toned down very much. Unfortunate.

If she is in her early 20s, how is her being pregnant a huge scandal? They really seemed to sell this as a TEEN pregnancy (as in high school aged Teen)

Maybe not TEEN pregnancy, but an unwed pregnancy. It will still be considered a scandal.

she also seems to be the "good girl"...the one who never disappoints, gets good grades, neatness freak...etc.

So it's the unwed pregnancy of the president's daughter thing but also the shock of HER doing something wrong. She even said at one point that the one time in her life she does something bad, it comes back to bite her...

Ah, so the title of the show, 1600 Penn, refers to year as well as the address. :)

I think a President's unwed daughter would be a minor-ish scandel. George W Bush's daughters were in the news during their drunken college years. I would think an unwed daughter would be a bigger story than that. I'm sure it wouldn't be portrayed in a 100% positive light. Also, if she got pregnant by a long time boyfriend, it wouldn't be a huge story. If she hadn't been seeing anyone and is suddenly pregnant, bigger story.

watching some more previews for upcoming episodes, I think it's a lot more clear that she is NOT a high school student. And maybe not even a college student. But it's not totally clear of she is living at "home" (The White House)

And Hoffer makes a good point, too.

Sarah Palin's daughter had a baby out of wedlock and I don't think it hurt her more than a few minutes and was fodder for a few jokes. Maybe a sitting President would be hurt more? I doubt it would be more than minor distraction.

Well, I said it would be a minor scandal. The President isn't going to be impeached because his unwed daughter is pregnant.

Also, I did a google search on "unwed daughter is pregnant is a scandal" and this was the first link. Look at the story's headline. Seems Yahoo thought Bristol Palin being pregnant was a scandal. :)

Just to clarify. I don't find it to be a scandal. I couldn't care less that Bristol Palin had a kid out of wedlock. There are however a lot of people in this country that do care about such things.

It's only a scandal if President Bill Pullman is a "family values" politician.

My understanding, though, is that the show is going to have almost zero political content. It's going to be focused more on the family than Dad's job. The White House is just the backdrop for the show.

I was going to say that all politicians claim they are for family values. Then you think about Clinton being having a sex scandal and he was still elected President.

They're not all for enforcing family values through legislation. That's really the distinction.

One of the US Senator's from Idaho, a lifelong Mormon, was caught on a DUI. It is a scandal but it depends on how a scandal is handled as to whether it hurts the politician. He has pled guilty and is doing the rehab and other things the law requires. Palin's daughter, seemed to try to get back with the father, and is supposidly working on teen pregnancy issues. Neither of the Bush daughters took up underage drinking issues but once they reached 21, you don't see anything in the news about their drinking. It would be a scandal if the President's daughter got pregnant out of wedlock but again, if it is not covered up and her decision about the baby is not controversial (no abortion) then it should not hurt his reelection.
