    Anecdotal evidence.

    Apples and oranges. Data can and should be backed up. Safe contents aren't always such.

    Granted, it's still a hassle to deal with a dead drive but if it's important then back it up.

    Warranty length is just warranty length. It's not the same thing as MTBF.

    Several Seagate models went from 5 year to 1 year practically overnight.

    Many of the WD Caviar Greens went from 3 year to 2 year.

    You almost can't find an external from anybody with a warranty longer than 1 year.

    The Toshiba drives are three year. I just picked up a couple of USB 3.0 drives from them. All their external drives I looked at still have three year warranties.

    Every hard drive manufacturer has had their share of failures.

    This drive seems expensive considering the price on hard drives has finally been dropping as of late.
